The Stratocaster is relegated to two (the Telecaster gets one) relatively short paragraphs in the 1958 Fender catalog (image on left) due primarily to that year's introduction of Fender's newest six-string creation, the Jazzmaster (though interestingly the Jazzmaster is not pictured on the front cover). As it did with the Stratocaster, Fender emphasizes the technological advances of the Jazzmaster: the "floating bridge," the "floating tremolo," and the then patent pending "trem-lock," which the catalog claims "...prevents the detuning of strings should one break during a performance."
1958 Stratocaster Specs: Two-tone sunburst becomes three-tone sunburst, adding the color red to the sunburst mix, and the neck profile becomes a "D."
