Anatomy of a 1955 Stratocaster Section Two: The Bare Body
Presented by Strat Collector News
Control cavity

There once was a piece of masking tape in the cavity with writing on it, possibly a date of manufacture and/or a signature of the person who shaped the body or applied the original finish. The masking tape was unfortunately misplaced when the cavity was shielded with copper tape many years ago. The dark smudge around the edge of the cavity and on the bottom is a stain left by adhesive residue from the copper shielding tape. The copper tape and the adhesive have been removed, but the finish suffered discoloration that is invisible when the guitar is assembled.
