Carlos Santana Talks to Modern Guitars

Press release
Source: Modern Guitars Magazine

On June 1, 2006, a day before his appearance at the Rock 'n' Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal, guitarist Carlos Santana spoke with Tom Watson, news editor for Modern Guitars Magazine, in an interview that covers a wide variety of topics, including the Paul Reed Smith guitars that bear Santana's name, his connection to jazz and the music of saxophonist John Coltrane, his next CD, a guitar-oriented instrumental album tentatively titled, A Moment Called Eternity, and Santana's hopes for the future.

Among those hopes are Santana's dream of creating a television channel dedicated to beauty that, among other things, would join speakers like Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu with Santana performances of songs like John Lennon's "Imagine", John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", or Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry".

Said Santana, "I want to create something on TV that I don’t see right now. I don’t see consciousness. I see rapes, I see killing, I see cheating, I see trash, I see sensationalism, I see gossip, I see mentally retarded spiritual energy and I’d like to see something that’s a little more advanced, more worthy of who we really are. I’d like to see consciousness exchanged, beyond religion and politics, between women and men, and then we play “One Love”, “A Love Supreme”, or “Imagine” or “Blowing in the Wind”. There are enough songs that are the new hymns for tomorrow."

The entire interview can be read on Modern Guitars at this location: Carlos Santana Interview.
