Fender Custom Shop to Produce 100 SRV Tribute Stratocasters
by Tom Watson
The upcoming January, 2004, Winter NAMM show will most likely see the unveiling of the Fender Custom Shop Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Stratocaster. Custom Shop Marketing Manager, Mike Eldred, Design Group Manager, George Blanda, and, Vice President of Marketing, Richard McDonald, met with Jimmie Vaughan in Austin and spent a day inspecting SRV's #1 for the purpose of recreating it for the SRV Tribute model.
Perhaps the most interesting piece of information about SRV's #1 coming out of Fender's inspection is that it appears to be an essentially stock, 1963 Stratocaster with a neck date of 1962 and a body date of 1963. It had been generally thought that the instrument was a '62 neck on a '59 body.
Only 100 of the SRV Tribute Stratocasters will be produced. It is anticipated that the suggested retail price will be $10,000.
